Good Morning! It’s Holiday time, where we all try to go back home to our families, or we’re happy to not be with our families. Either way it is a stressful time of the year, so what are you doing about it?
There are a few days left to think over 2018, and prepare for 2019. However, I challenge you to think about WHO you want to be. Over the next few days, when the stress of x,y, and z starts to creep in, think over who you have been in 2018, and who you want to be in 2019. Celebrate your wins this year, and learn from the times you didn’t.
I don’t really make goals each year, but I think over principles. This year I wanted to be more grateful than I have ever been. There were days of success and failure, but I kept that in my mind the whole year, and it was a great reminder!

It’s like thinking over one of “those weeks” where either work is very stressful, or family and friends end up being stressful. There’s always decisions in life that you can make that take you one of two directions. There truly are moments where you have to make a decision, and you can chose to make a decision that brings you closer to the “who” that you want to be, or you can make a decision that you’re “suppose to make”.
Taking a set back for our checklists and to-do lists, think about life for a second. How fast life is and how important certain aspects are and how unimportant others are. I remember being a kid and all I wanted in school was this certain backpack. A personalized backpack is huge for kids in school because, if you went to a school with a uniform like I did, it’s the one time where you can choose what you want to wear. It was a tan corduroy backpack with flowers embroidered the bottom right corner. Also, it was a cross body backpack, I was very stylish!
However, looking back, that was not a big life decision. The larger decision I made that year was when another kid in my class decided to be cruel to me, to not be cruel back. That was a life decision. I call it “eating the banana pancakes”
WHAT WERE YOUR PANCAKE MOMENTS THIS YEAR?
Did you choose to spend time with those you love? Did you spend a little too much for the sake of enjoying your time together? Was it worth the money spent? Did you step out of your comfort zone because you know if you eat oatmeal you’ll forget about this later in life? Did you pick something new off of the menu and step out and eat something new? Were you kind to those when others were cruel to you? There is already enough hate in this world, don’t add to it.
I call this moment “eating the banana pancake” because it’s not something super far out there, but it’s a moment where you choose to do something fun, and a little out of your comfort zone simple because you want to have some fun. You take a trip for the weekend to see friends, you go outside an play volleyball, or you take a horseback riding class because it’s something exciting to do a little out of the norm. All of a sudden those little moments of being WHO you were wanting to be, actually add up to those larger life decisions, and you didn’t even know it.
THINKING TOWARDS 2019
That’s how life is. It’s small decisions here and there, some unimportant in the moment and some important that eventually make us into who we are. We choose those decisions, and make those memories for ourselves once we leave home. What decisions will you make through the rest of this year, and into 2019?
